Our Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of the Association are:

a)  To provide a platform to engage in regular dialogues with AVS in matters relating to cat welfare and the cat community/industry.

b)  To conduct educational workshops, seminars, and webinars to educate boarding service providers, breeders, pet shop owners, and groomers about ethical practices, animal welfare, and responsible care.

c)  To work closely with the relevant authorities to advocate for and contribute to the development of animal health and welfare, boarding regulations, and breeding and sale of cats regulations that ensure the well-being of cats.

d)  To work closely with cat welfare groups and conduct outreach programmes to the public and cat owners on responsible cat ownership.

e)  To work closely with cat welfare groups to disseminate information to community cats carers on looking after community cats responsibly and effectively.

f)  To collaborate with veterinarians to establish health assessment protocols for cats before adoption, breeding or sale, and to provide ongoing guidance on health and medical care.

g)  To foster collaboration and networking among ethical breeders, pet shop owners, groomers and cat boarding service providers to collectively improve the standards of cat care in the industry.

h)  To set standards for cat boarding facilities in terms of space, hygiene, veterinary care, and enrichment to ensure cats’ welfare and health during their period of boarding.

i)  To run public awareness campaigns to potential cat owners the importance of purchasing from ethical and approved sources, including breeders and pet shops that are licensed by AVS.

j)  To conduct inspections and audits on breeders, pet shops, and cat boarding facilities to ensure ongoing compliance with ethical standards.

k)  To develop and encourage the adoption of a code of conduct for pet shops that ensures cats are sourced from ethical breeders and provided with appropriate care and living conditions at all life stages.

l)  To advocate for ethical breeding methods that prioritize the health, well-being, and genetic diversity of cats over profit by developing and disseminating comprehensive breeding guidelines that address health, genetics, socialization, and living conditions to ensure the physical and mental being of cats.

m)  To establish guidelines for advertising cats for sale which discourage misleading or exaggerated claims about the cats' qualities or origins.

n)  To establish a certification program within AVS guidelines that recognizes and promotes breeders who adhere to the Association's ethical standards and guidelines.

o)  To create a repository of resources including guidelines, templates, and best practices for cat boarding, cat care, ethical breeding and business operations.

p)  To provide a platform for reporting unethical practices within the industry and take appropriate actions based on reported violations.

q)  To continuously review and update the Association’s standards and guidelines based on new research, advancements, and feedback from stakeholders.

r)  To conduct other any other activities that are deemed useful for the aims of the Association.
